Christmas Adventures: Bielefeld

Our last stop on our Christmas market tour was Bielefeld. When I booked the trip I didn't know there was an online joke that Bielefeld doesn't exist. It wasn't until we were traveling that Raymond told me about it. I looked up the city when we got close to see what there was to do and everything was like there is nothing fun to see or do there so I was like oh, okay...I guess we will have a relaxing day there?

When we got in we wandered down to the Christmas market to spy and it was really nice!

We didn't spy on everything, but we did find quite a few places that had vegan foods that sounded good so we had that to look forward to the next day

The next day we were off to explore the city

Some vegan grunkohl! for lunch! This was good, but not as good as the one we had in Dortmund

And a giant soft pretzel, though we were sad as it wasn't fresh and hot, but still tasty

A small sculpture park

Then we headed up the hill to Sparrenburg Castle/fortress which was pretty small, but had views of the city

This was really fun to wander around, and there were a lot of nice trails too

Then back down to the sculpture park

And through town

Some churros for an afternoon snack - they were so tasty!

For a town that has nothing interesting to see or do, is not on a river, is just unremarkable, I really enjoyed Bielefeld! It was much nicer than a lot of towns we have been to and I really enjoyed my time wandering. I would definitely come back here, especially at Christmas time or in the fall and wander some of the trails. I loved Bielefeld!

Stupid Libraries.

So I only have six minutes left and just wasted a few seconds letting you know, but I need some assistance in getting things off our iPod onto the net. In the last town we were in, I came so close to getting it up only to be thwarted by the only damn cd -burner in the shop being broken. This is the problem: my iPod is mac formatted - the folks at Apple thought it would be hilarious to not include some sort of compatibility between windows and mac versions of iTunes to read the voice memos you record from any computer. If your iPod formatted on a mac (I believe it's HSF +), windows iTunes will tell you to reformat the buggar . And get this, the iPod records voice memos in old school PC style wav files. What the hell. Anyway, I can't test or install things on this library computer, but if someone checking the blog who is tech savvy could find a program to retrieve data from a mac formatted iPod from a windows machine - a program that doesn't use a god damn install ...

The final days in Paris

Our second day of our museum pass we used to go to the Louvre. It so huge - we spent from open to close there and just managed to see everything. It is also very confusing how to get from point a to point b - so many stairs and up and down floors just to see the one floor....good thing I had Raymond or I would have wondered aimlessly forever (but by the end I had the hang of it). We started with the medieval Louvre, Greek, Etruscan, Roman and Egyptian Antiquities. When we first walked in we were right behind a few tour groups, but somehow we lost them pretty quick and we able to walk around and brows without tons of people. I cannot imagine going during the summer when it is super crowded. I liked the different colors of stone on some of them After that we got some lunch nearby then headed back to look at the paintings Then my favorite part - decorative arts. So much fun pretty things. Replica of Napoleons apartment. Then ...

Den Haag, Netherlands Part 3

Our last day in Den Haag we wandered around just a bit more First stop - the Antique and Book market The ground was all seashells Mondrian on the water by the government buildings We decided to get lunch at Cafe Zeta which was in Grote Markt where they were having a free music festival, Sinester. Though we were there on the last day which was the kids day. It was fun as we were sitting outside and at the stage people were teaching kids how to play things and DJ and stuff.  I got the Hippie Buddah Bowl (Bulgur, sweet potato, bald, roasted chickpeas, tahini dressing, avocado, black sesame seeds) with the Fennel mint pear juice And Raymond had the Apple Pear Ginger juice and the Veggie Roast Bowl (mushrooms, red onion rings, rocket, Parmesan cheese, olive oil).
