Campervan Adventures in Spain & Portugal: Bilbao & Gaztelugatxe

Today started with a whirlwind tour of Bilbao!

It took forever to get into the city and find a parking place as the traffic was awful, but once we did it was off to explore.

We got lots of treats here!

The train station

Walking back we went by a protest of some sort

We only had 2 hours on the parking meter so we got back to the car in time, but I had wanted to extend it another hour to go spy on a few more things...but you cannot. You have to put your license plate in and it won't let you buy a ticket for more time once the time expires!

When we got back to the car we snacked on a chocolate chip scone from Bohemian Lane Pasteleria Vegana which was so so good! I normally wouldn't get a scone, but Raymond wanted to try it so why not? And I am glad we did! Really we got all the treats in Bilbao

What other treats did we get? Well this is on the bottom a zucchini onion tortilla and a ham and cheese tortilla, an empanada, and a ham and cheese puff pastry

As well as some croissants from Bohemian Lane Pasteleria Vegana - all of it was so so good!

We also got empanadas from Las Mil Delicias Somera

Banana peanut butter cake & Txarloska cake (apple cinnamon)

and a Brownie & chocolate cookie from Txarloska Pasteleria Vegana. The cakes were tasty, but these were a bit dry. All the treats!

After Bilbao we headed on to Gaztelugatxe - where they filmed Kahleesi's castle in Game of Thrones!

It was really beautiful, but the paths to get down there were so incredibly steep - almost too steep to walk down which was surprising since it is such a popular stop

After climbing a ton of narrow steps you get to this small church at the top

And all the views!

All the stairs!

Then it was on to camp - Camping Itxaspe which had some nice views

At camp we got a spot up on a terrace with this view! It also felt like we were the only people here as you couldn't hear anything but nature! We even saw some donkeys wandering the hills

Another great day! Though tomorrow is the last day in Spain

13.98km walked/77 flights

Fall is here!

So not a whole lot has happened since I last posted. On our anniversary we were going to go on the boat tour of Berlin, but it was rainy and overcast so we decided to wait for a nice sunny day to do that. We had a few errands to run in the morning and then Raymond said about going to a museum. I saw the natural history museum and since I loved the one in Denver we decided to go there. You walk into this big room with lots of fossils and Dinosaurs! They didn't have a lot of things - this was the main room and is maim attraction of the museum. It was a tiny place, and they were doing renovations on a lot of the other exhibits. Apparently it is famous for having the largest dinosaur skeleton in the world! They also had these fun viewfinder things you could look through and if you point it at a dinosaur it would show this animation that filled them in and then showed them running around or eating or whatever. I thought it was fun. There was also a large room of rocks and m...

Den Haag, Netherlands Part 3

Our last day in Den Haag we wandered around just a bit more First stop - the Antique and Book market The ground was all seashells Mondrian on the water by the government buildings We decided to get lunch at Cafe Zeta which was in Grote Markt where they were having a free music festival, Sinester. Though we were there on the last day which was the kids day. It was fun as we were sitting outside and at the stage people were teaching kids how to play things and DJ and stuff.  I got the Hippie Buddah Bowl (Bulgur, sweet potato, bald, roasted chickpeas, tahini dressing, avocado, black sesame seeds) with the Fennel mint pear juice And Raymond had the Apple Pear Ginger juice and the Veggie Roast Bowl (mushrooms, red onion rings, rocket, Parmesan cheese, olive oil). Super tasty lunch! A stop at More Pastry for more treats - Peanut butter chocolate tart - so good! And the...

The final days in Paris

Our second day of our museum pass we used to go to the Louvre. It so huge - we spent from open to close there and just managed to see everything. It is also very confusing how to get from point a to point b - so many stairs and up and down floors just to see the one floor....good thing I had Raymond or I would have wondered aimlessly forever (but by the end I had the hang of it). We started with the medieval Louvre, Greek, Etruscan, Roman and Egyptian Antiquities. When we first walked in we were right behind a few tour groups, but somehow we lost them pretty quick and we able to walk around and brows without tons of people. I cannot imagine going during the summer when it is super crowded. I liked the different colors of stone on some of them After that we got some lunch nearby then headed back to look at the paintings Then my favorite part - decorative arts. So much fun pretty things. Replica of Napoleons apartment. Then ...
