A Visit with My Mom

Man, I have not been in the mood to write lately. Well, for a while now. I don't know what it is, but I sit down to write up some posts and...nothing. So I guess I will just need to do it and get this stuff updated. I have a few days before our next adventure so let's see what all I can get posted before then!

Earlier this year my mom came for a quick visit. Just a few days, but it was lots of fun as always. The first day we went down to Potsdam for the day and met up with our friends Chris and Katarina. We finally made it by their cafe and they took us on a walk through Park Sanssouci - that is where all these flower pictures are from. I think this was the first time I have been out there when there were beautiful flowers in bloom!

It was a beautiful day, but a tad chilly.

After lunch we headed over to Glienicker Brücke - the spy bridge! This was top on the list of things to see for my mom as she missed it last time. Well we thought we went to it last time, but the person we asked about it told us it was a different bridge and so we didn't. If you saw Bridge of Spies then this is the bridge!

My mom crossing the border line

Then we headed back downtown and came across a small National Beer Day celebration

They had some pigs for some reason. It was a really nice day.

The next day we went on one of the boat tours of Berlin

Waiting for the boat

And ready to set sail! It was a bit cold on the water and still not prime tourist time so there were not very many other people aboard

After that beautiful but cold boat ride it was time to warm up with some hot beverage, waffles, and ice cream! Pkay the ice cream wasn't to warm up, it was just because it is delicious!

Then dinner at Viasko since we were in the area. This was during asparagus season so we tried the asparagus special

And cheese spaetzle! Delicious!

The next day I took my mom out to Charlottenburg Palace, though it was a Monday and it was closed. We just wandered around the grounds and the garden in the back. Another beautiful, but cold day.

A little horse on the one side of the roof what is he doing there??

Later that night we went to trivia! At the beginning the guy told everyone the prizes and the prize for last place was a puppy mug. We knew what we were playing for! Though we wanted to earn it honestly and not just throw the trivia. So we played and had a lot of fun, but there were some really difficult rounds. So after the last round I thought we could probably just leave because we did not do well or poor enough to get a prize, but we stuck around.

Well when they went to announce the winners the last place team was not still there. So they announced the next worst team and...

We won the puppy mug!! Oh man, I was sooooo excited!! I think everyone was looking at us like we were crazy as we yelled and cheered and carried on about winning the puppy mug. But seriously look at it! It is a puppy mug!! It was like the most exciting thing ever!

I still had one more day with my mom, but apparently I didn't take any photos. We did a bit of shopping then went to the Stasi Museum in the old building where offices and stuff were. It was pretty interesting.

My mom was off early the next day. It was a quick trip, but we had so much fun!

The final days in Paris

Our second day of our museum pass we used to go to the Louvre. It so huge - we spent from open to close there and just managed to see everything. It is also very confusing how to get from point a to point b - so many stairs and up and down floors just to see the one floor....good thing I had Raymond or I would have wondered aimlessly forever (but by the end I had the hang of it). We started with the medieval Louvre, Greek, Etruscan, Roman and Egyptian Antiquities. When we first walked in we were right behind a few tour groups, but somehow we lost them pretty quick and we able to walk around and brows without tons of people. I cannot imagine going during the summer when it is super crowded. I liked the different colors of stone on some of them After that we got some lunch nearby then headed back to look at the paintings Then my favorite part - decorative arts. So much fun pretty things. Replica of Napoleons apartment. Then ...

Updates!

So I know we haven't updated in forever.....but we have REALLY been in the middle of nowhere. The section through the high Sierras is at least a 9 mile hike out to a road where you might get a ride down to a town (and we did that 9 mile stretch and the library there was....tiny and not very well organized). So we haven't been anywhere were the internet connection was good enough to upload anything, but Raymond is working on uploading the last few that we had from before The Sauffley's. But I am working on uploading the rest of the pictures we have taken so far, and depending on time I may make a post highlighting some of them. Raymond put a link to the pics on the side so you can just click that to see what we have been walking through. We have fallen a little farther behind now, but we are not really worried. This last section, the high Sierras, was exhausting! And I was not about to try and do more as then we wouldn't have been enjoying it....and if I am not enjoying ...

Campervan Adventures in Iceland: Day 11 - Kerid Crater & Reykjanes Peninsula

Day 11 our first stop was Kerid Crater. This was nice, but nothing special. You have to pay to get in, you can walk around the top and then down to the water, but if you are going to be seeing other craters then this is an easy one to skip. Nice, but nothing special.
