We are off!!

So Phillip and Dana were gracious enough to take us to the border on Friday afternoon and we started hiking! It has been amazing and fun and we have been meeting a lot of very nice people all over the place. On the second day we had this awful hike up a canyon that was just soooo hot and bleh and when we got to the top we met some people out day hiking who gave us ice water! It was amazing!! Anyways we cannot upload the audio or photos at the library here in Julian, so hopefully in Warner Springs we can get them up. The first days were really hot, but yesterday was freezing! We were very glad we had all of our gear with us as in the morning it was soooo cold and windy we had our hats and gloves and jackets and long underwear on. It was crazy how windy it was....literally blowing me over on the trail. I was glad I had my hiking poles as without them I am sure I would have fallen numerous times just due to the wind.

We have been hiking pretty far the last 2 days, 15-16 miles each day, so we thought we would just hang out here in Julian this afternoon and then hike a few miles this evening before calling it good. Only 33 miles to Warner Springs, with 23 miles being hot and dry so we will have to carry a lot of water out. Though we should be there Saturday evening, 1 day sooner than we had planned (which is always good- I cannot wait to sit in the hot springs!!). I suppose that is all for now. Check back later to see if/when we can upload the whole story :)

Jenni called me Monday evening from Mt Laguna with her stories of heat on the first leg. She also noted that they walked through some areas that were quite beatiful with colorful Spring flowers. She thought "Mom would like it here." Too funny, wherever Jenni sees flowers she thinks of me. On Thursday afternoon, Jenni called from outside of the library in Julian. You could hear the wind over the phone! So far their gear has performed as necessary - the sleeping bags were warm enough in the wind and below zero weather on the second leg. She did mention that when they reach their next resupply stop (I think it's the next one), there is a pancake challenge to see who can eat 2 pancakes a foot in diameter. If it was ice cream, I know Jen would win that challenge!! I am with Jenni and Raymond in spirit, and of course there is ALWAYS the chance that I will parachute in and meet them! Happy trails!

Campervan Adventures in Iceland: Ferry home - Tórshavn

The boat home was just as smooth and uneventful as the ride to Iceland. We left Iceland at 8pm Wed, Thurs at 3pm we arrive in Tórshavn and had a few hours to wander around, then back to the boat for the night, Friday was at sea, and Saturday we arrived in Hirtshals at 11am.

Campervan Adventures in Iceland: Final Thoughts

That is it for our Iceland adventures! I wanted to post one last wrap up just to say a few things I didn't put elsewhere, or organize my overall thoughts in one place.

The end

So it started raining on us for days and we cut out to come back to Seattle for a few days and wait for it to clear up.....and then Raymond decided he really did not want to go back out. So I at first was pretty upset cause I really wanted to get to Canada, or at least as far as we could while the weather was still nice this weekend. And I was feeling really like we were giving up for no reason. Like if one of us were injured or if I was hating it or something then I would have been better about it. But instead it was like the forecast called for gorgeous weather this weekend and we were just going to sit at home. I figured we could have at least gotten to the next stop and then only had one more chunk to do next year, but Raymond really didn't want to go back out so we decided not to. But hopefully by this time next year we will get the last 2 sections done, and maybe go back and do the section from white pass to snoqualmie as we went RIGHT by Mt Rainier and it is supposed to be g
