Sept Adventures 2023: Teufelsmauer Timmenrode Hike

Today we hiked part of the Teufelsmauer from Timmenrode

This was so much fun! All the rocks!

The trail starts as a trail

It was interesting as the rocks are just in the middle of this farmland.

After a while the trail turns into climbing on the rocks! You could also take a lower route and keep to a trail, but the climbing all over was so much fun!

At the end of the trail by Blankenburg was this rock you could climb on top of

But you had to climb up the steep rocks!

After a short break here it was time to head back towards Timmenrode along a different path

Much more forested

But still rocky

We were walking along and all of a sudden there was this tiny staircase in the ground on the edge of the trail

That lead to this little foxhole! It was pretty cool, just a small room, but would be good if you needed shelter

After our hike we headed back to Thale and decided to wander a bit more around town

We had decided that we were going to go back to Treseburg for dinner where we had a break the day prior as they had lots of options. Along the way was the Rossetrappe viewpoint on the opposite side of the valley than we had hiked so we thought why not stop for a quick peak?

A highlight is this horseshoe print left by a fleeing princess who had to jump across the gorge to escape the guy who wanted to force her to marry him. This was apparently made when the horse landed

This was really gorgeous and I was glad we stopped.

Treseburg

Back at Zur Luppbode for dinner of burgers which were super tasty (but no photos!) This place was a great find and they had a lot of vegan options, but I hadn't see anything about it in my searches for food in the area.

After dinner we decided to go back to the Rossetrappe viewpoint to see the sunset. When we were there earlier it looked like the perfect spot to watch from as the sun would set almost directly across from the viewpoint

Such a fun day! All the hiking and all the views!

Stupid Libraries.

So I only have six minutes left and just wasted a few seconds letting you know, but I need some assistance in getting things off our iPod onto the net. In the last town we were in, I came so close to getting it up only to be thwarted by the only damn cd -burner in the shop being broken. This is the problem: my iPod is mac formatted - the folks at Apple thought it would be hilarious to not include some sort of compatibility between windows and mac versions of iTunes to read the voice memos you record from any computer. If your iPod formatted on a mac (I believe it's HSF +), windows iTunes will tell you to reformat the buggar . And get this, the iPod records voice memos in old school PC style wav files. What the hell. Anyway, I can't test or install things on this library computer, but if someone checking the blog who is tech savvy could find a program to retrieve data from a mac formatted iPod from a windows machine - a program that doesn't use a god damn install

The First Two Weeks

From In Berlin Hello! So I have been here just over 2 weeks now which is a bit crazy and things are finally coming together. I really like our apartment. Lots of room and it is very quiet as we are a block off the main road. We finally got some furniture last week so the place is not as empty and we actually have chairs to sit on and a bed to sleep in (that is not the noisy air mattress). I even have my craft table set up, but I am still looking for storage for my fabrics and such (the ones I wanted were out of stock). Yesterday I sewed up curtains for the front windows so we can have the privacy blinds (big metal blinds that come down and cover the front windows and are on most of the ground floor windows around town) up and Raymond won't freak out that people can see in.The bedroom/my craft room is pretty much done. The back of the house gets much better light during the day so I set up shop back there to take advantage of it. If I worked in the front rooms I would need the
